Rowan is over-priced, but I love this quality jacket. I have two; one in blue and one in tan. I have two accomplished fashion designers in my family, so I know most garments cost far more than their production cost. I know I could have easily found a cool, quality jacket at a much lower price elsewhere. However, Rowan stuff fits me, buying from Rowan was easier than hunting, and I just like hanging out with the staff. I paid for the ease and the experience, which is what they're counting on; and I don't regret it.

You're right that retail prices exceed the cost of goods - that's how businesses work - but we make choices that aren't the cheapest. We make our knitwear here in Los Angeles with American-grown cotton when possible, and for outerwear we partner with a factory in Indonesia that is certified by multiple organizations and far exceeds local environmental and ethical standards. We chose them for the quality of their work, not simply the cost. Other companies chase the cheapest labor around the globe. That is not our strategy.
We're also fully bootstrapped. We built Rowan with our own money and effort, no venture capital, no big investors. That means we can't run at a loss or produce the volume that gets the big brands their margins. We have to earn it the honest way - we have to break even to exist, which after 5½ years is still a journey. A rewarding one, but never an easy one.
We're genuinely proud of the team we've built. They are people who believe in us as much as we believe in them, and clearly people you enjoy spending time with, too. That part we'll never compromise on either.
So glad you have two Odessas and hope there's more Rowan in your future. We're grateful to have you with us.

This jacket has such a rugged quality to it but in a soft twill fabric. Fits great and works well with jeans or chinos. Sleeves are a bit long for me but they unbutton and roll up which works well for me. I am usually an XL in most Rowan items but the Large in this jacket fits well and has a streamlined look. Well worth it!
